"HORTICULTURAL TECHNICIAN"

Leading to national certification by the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association

A Growing Industry...

The Landscape/Horticultural Industry is a large contributor to our provincial economy, and is a rapidly growing sector. It includes a wide range of activities and services from design, installation and maintenance of public and private building facilities and grounds; to various recreational facilities such as parks and golf courses; and to home physical environment, whether it is their municipal park or their own back garden, and as a result the demand for professional landscape/horticultural advice and services is increasing.

LNL's and the Public College's Response...

LNL has adopted professionalization of the industry as an immediate goal, in order to: provide wider career prospects, enhance employment opportunities for current employees, and increase the standards and integrity of products and services. Previously, individuals wishing to obtain professional qualifications or upgrade their skills in this sector have either attended training institutions on the mainland, or enrolled in correspondence courses. College of the North Atlantic is pleased to offer the Horticultural Technician program - a full-time landscape/horticultural program leading to national certification by the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA).

The Program...

The program is the result of a partnership between LNL and College of the North Atlantic. This course is intended to provide participants with general knowledge on a variety of tasks that are needed within the landscape industry. The program will be delivered by the College at the Topsail Road Campus in St. John's. Following completion of the program at the College, students take the CNLA examinations in Truro, N.S.
